Do they really say community is non-transactional, and then go on to say “ sometimes taking years to materialize value back”. That is so hypocritical. It’s like saying transactional implies short term. Long term transactional is fine.

My view of transactional here is folks who go into a community with a 10:1 ask to give ratio. Instead, it should be 10:1 give to ask. That's how you get value in the long term.

Sorry for the somewhat snarky comment above. I totally know that you understand the dev community and I understand your 10:1 ask. My issue has always been that once you starting having to explain that, it's a no-win proposition.

The best community folks I know do it because they love the tech, they love people and they just love sharing. Usually, what goes around comes around (IMHO), but once you get into any transactional conversation (10-1, 100-1,1-5, etc.), all hope is lost.
